A (not necessarily finite-dimensional) Lie algebra \(L\) (over an field \(\mathbb K\) of characteristic zero) with a root decomposition \(L=H + \sum_{\alpha \in \Delta} L_\alpha\) with respect to an abelian subalgebra \(H\), where \(L_\alpha = \{ x \in L : [h,x]=\alpha(h)x \, (\forall h \in H)\}\) and \(\Delta =\{ \alpha \in H^* \smallsetminus \{ 0\} : L_\alpha \neq 0\}\), is called a \textit{split} Lie algebra. A simple root \(\alpha \in \Delta\) is said to be \textit{integrable} if there exist elements \(x_{\pm \alpha} \in L_{\pm \alpha}\) generating a subalgebra isomorphic to \(\mathfrak{sl}(\mathbb K, 2)\) and the endomorphisms \(ad_{\pm \alpha}\) are locally nilpotent. An important result due to K.-H. Neeb states that a split Lie algebra with only integrable roots is locally finite, i.e., the Lie algebra is the direct limit of its finite-dimensional subalgebras, while the classification of locally finite split simple Lie algebras is due to \textit{K.-H. Neeb} and \textit{N. Stumme} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 533, 25--53 (2001; Zbl 0993.17011)]. By imposing suitable conditions to a triple system, in order to guarantee that its standard embedding is a Lie algebra satisfying the required properties, the author, in the present paper, extends the above results to Lie triple systems over an algebraically closed field \(\mathbb K\) of characteristic zero.
