Let \(\Omega\) be a compact space and let \(X,Y\) be Banach spaces. In this interesting paper, the authors give an extension of the classical Bartle-Dunford-Schwartz theorem on representing operators from \(C(\Omega)\) to \(Y\) by vector measures, leading to their famous characterization of weakly compact operators. Let \(\Sigma\) be the Borel sigma field. In continuation of their earlier work [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 454, No. 1, 41--58 (2017; Zbl 1367.47027)], the authors show that, for an operator \(S:C(\Omega) \rightarrow {\mathcal L}(X,Y)\), there is a unique \({\mathcal L}(X,Y^{\ast\ast})\)-valued representing measure. Conversely, given a bounded vector measure with this domain and range, they give conditions when the measure is a representing measure for \(S\). The authors also give a representation theorem when the domain is replaced by the space \(C_p(\Omega,X)\) of \(p\)-continuous functions earlier studied by them in [J. Funct. Anal. 269, No. 9, 2871--2889 (2015; Zbl 1332.46028)].
