Simultaneous Abel equations (Q443928)

Let \(I\) be an open real interval and \(\mathcal{S}\) be a nonempty subset of all increasing bijections of \(I\) and \(\lambda:\mathcal{S}\rightarrow\mathbb R\). The authors investigate the functional equation \[ \phi\bigl(f(x)\bigr)=\phi(x)+\lambda(f)\qquad(f\in\mathcal{S},x\in I) \] in the case when the group \(G\) generated by \(\mathcal{S}\) is disjoint, that is, whenever \(f(x)=g(x)\) for some \(f,g\in G\) and \(x\in I\), then \(f=g\). If the system of equations above have a continuous solution, then \(\lambda\) is called an \textit{index function} for the system. The main results of the paper present necessary and sufficient conditions for \(\lambda\) to be an index function. Moreover, the authors investigate the problem of embeddability of a disjoint group of homeomorphisms in a continuous iteration group. The results obtained give an alternative approach to some results of \textit{M. C.
