Let \(G\) be the general linear group, \(B\) its standard Borel subgroup, \(\mathfrak n\) the space of strictly upper-triangular matrices, \(\mathfrak n^*\) its dual space, \(S_n\) the symmetric group on \(n\) letters, \(S_n^2\) the set of involutions of \(S_n\). To \(\sigma\in S_n^2\) one can assign the \(B\)-orbit \(\Omega_\sigma\subset\mathfrak n^*\). Let \(\sigma,\tau\in S_n^2\). The author computes \(\dim\Omega_\sigma\) and proves that \(\Omega_\tau\) is contained in the Zariski closure of \(\Omega_\sigma\) if and only if \(\tau\leq\sigma\) with respect to the Bruhat-Chevalley order. He also gives a conjectural description of the closure of \(\Omega_\sigma\) and discusses some connections with the geometry of Schubert varieties.
