In this paper, the authors present a detailed and thorough study of the stability and Fredholm property of finite sections of a quasi-banded operator, acting on \(L_{p}\) (\(p>1\)) spaces over the real axis. This class of operators contains convolution type operators with semi-almost periodic and quasi-continuous symbols and the class of operators of multiplication by slowly oscillating, almost periodic, or even more general coefficients. This family is much wider than the set of band-dominated operators, but still permits to obtain criteria for stability and results on the splitting property, as well as an index formula in the form as it known for the classical cases.
