Asymptotic behavior of electromagnetic waves in nonlinear dielectric media (Q1861178)

This paper examines a nonlinear system comprising Maxwell's equations coupled with a nonlinear dielectric polarization and a generally nonlinear law for the electric current. The large time behavior of the electromagnetic field is investigated in a spatially bounded domain and also in the case of an exterior domain. The paper contains a good summary and statement of basic assumptions and definitions, and after developing some preliminary results concerning asymptotic behavior, it proceeds to consider both the bounded and exterior domain cases in considerable detail. It concludes with a study of asymptotic states in the non-charge-free case.
