    The main result of the paper concerns the remainder term \[ R(n| z)= \{\sum f(j)z^j\mid [j\geq n)\} \] of the series \(R(1| z)\), where \(| z|\leq 1\). It is supposed that the \(f(j)\) possess an asymptotic expansion of the form \[ f(j)\sim \{\sum a(k)j^{-p(k)}\mid [k\geq 1)\}, \] where \(p(k+ 1)- p(k)\in\mathbb{N}\) for every \(k\geq 1\) and that \(p(1)> 1\) when \(z= 1\). The authors derive an asymptotic expansion \[ R(n| z)\sim z^n n^{-q}\{\sum b(r| z) n^{-r}\mid [r\geq 1)\}, \] where the value \(q\) and a recursion for the \(b(r| z)\) are stated. In the special case in which \(z=1\), an estimate of \(R(n| z)\) is derived. The theory is illustrated with reference to the case in which \(f(j)\) has the form \((j+ b)^\nu(j+ a)^{-p}\) where \(b,\dots, p\) are real constants.
