    The author introduces some generalization of classical spaces of vector-valued functions to spaces of mappings \(\mathcal X \to \mathcal Y\) from a space \(\mathcal X\) of homogeneous type (Definition 4, \S 4) to a complete metric space \(\mathcal Y\). These are the spaces of Hölder continuous mappings with respect to a doubling measure and Campanato spaces (\S 4), the Morrey spaces (\S 5), the spaces of mappings of bounded mean oscillation (\S 6) and the Sobolev-type spaces (\S 7). The author proves some integral characterizations. The basic properties of these spaces of mappings are discussed in Propositions 5 and 7, and in particular in Proposition 6 the theorem of John and Nirenberg. The author proves the Poincaré and Sobolev inequalities (Proposition 8), the Sobolev's embedding theorem with sharp exponents (Corollary 3) and a sharp estimate on the set of Sobolev-type mappings (Proposition 9).
