We present a solution procedure to a problem of scattering of a time harmonic Rayleigh wave incident upon a wedge on the half-space. This problem has been motivated by the particular, as yet unsolved problem in surface acoustic transducers: Rayleigh wave scattering by a surface layer on a half-space. Both problems have proved quite resistant to various classical solution techniques and so the simpler one (wedge problem) is being tackled first in order to provide a pilot solution. The solution procedure is based on the ''Theory of connectivity'' recently developed by \textit{I. Herrera} [see e.g.: Appl. Math. Modelling 3, 151-156 (1979; Zbl 0407.35008)]. Several wave scattering problems were already tackled by this method but mostly with restriction to the SH motions. To the best of our knowledge, this paper presents a first application of this method to an inplane wave scattering problem and other problem cases will follow.
