Let \((X,T)\) be a topological dynamical system. Let \(M(X)\), \(M(X,T)\), \(E(X,T)\) denote the sets of all Borel probability measures, \(T\)-invariant Borel probability measures, and \(T\)-invariant ergodic Borel probability measures on \(X\), respectively. Here the author studies four measure-theoretic quantities for Borel probability measures to characterize upper and lower Katok measure-theoretic entropies. He defines three types of topological entropy: \(\overline{h}_{\text{top}}(T,Z)\), \(\underline{h} _{\text{top}}(T,Z)\) and the Bowen topological entropy \(h_{\text{top}}^{B}(T,Z)\), where \(Z\subset X\). The author introduces four notions for Borel probability measure \(\mu\in M(X)\), denoted by \(e_{\mu}(T), \underline{e}_{\mu}(T),\overline{e}_{\mu}(T), e_{\mu}^{*}(T)\), and characterizes upper and lower Katok measure-theoretic entropies by using these measures. By means of two quantities \(e_{\mu}(T)\) and \(e_{\mu}^{*}(T)\), two new variational principles are obtained. Let \((X,T)\) be a topological dynamical system and \(\mu\in E(X,T)\) and \(G_{\mu}\) be the set of \(\mu\)-generic points. The author proves that \(h^{P}_{\text{top}}(T,G_{\mu}) = h_{\mu}(T)\), where \(h_{\mu}(T)\) is the measure-theoretic entropy and \(h^{P}_{\text{top}}(T,G_{\mu})\) is the packing topological entropy.
