The authors study the following planar Schrödinger-Poisson system \begin{align*} \begin{cases} -\Delta u + \phi u =K(x)f(u), & x\in \mathbb{R}^2\\ \Delta \phi = u^2, & x\in\mathbb{R}^2, \end{cases} \end{align*} where \(K\in C(\mathbb{R}^2, (0,\infty))\) and \(f\in C(\mathbb{R},\mathbb{R})\). Applying a new energy estimate inequality, it is shown that the system has an axially symmetric solution which has a special minimax characterization.
