The authors deals with the problem of linearizing actions of groups on affine spaces. In particular, they deal with the case when the group \(O_2(k)\) is acting on affine four-space. \textit{G. Schwarz} [C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris Sér. I Math. 309, No.2, 89--94 (1989; Zbl 0688.14040)] had exhibited such non-linearizable actions over the complex numbers. \textit{H. Miki} [Osaka J. Math. 33, No.2, 387--398 (1996; Zbl 0956.14038)] showed that there are non-linearizable actions of \(O_2(\mathbb{C})\) on \(\mathbb{A}^4_{\mathbb{C}}\) which restricts to actions on the real four-space. In particular, these actions over the reals are not linearizable. Miki raised the question whether an action over the reals which becomes linear over the complex numbers is already linearizable. This is called the ``weak complexification problem''. The authors construct examples to show that this has a negative answer.
