Let \(T\) be a bounded linear operator on a Banach space \(X\). The operator \(T\) is said to be \textit{Weyl} if it is Fredholm of index zero. Denote by \(\sigma_{W}(T)\) the set of all complex \(\lambda\) for which \(T-\lambda I\) is not a Weyl operator. An operator \(T\) is said to be \textit{B-Weyl} if for some nonnegative \(n\), the range space \(R(T^{n})\) is closed and \[ T| _{R(T^{n})}:R(T^{n})\rightarrow R(T^{n}) \] is a Weyl operator. Denote be \(\sigma_{BW}(T)\) the corresponding spectrum. Let \(\sigma(T)\) be the (usual) spectrum of \(T\) and let \(E(T)\) be the set of all eigenvalues of \(T\) that are isolated points of \(\sigma(T)\). One says that \(T\) \textit{obeys the generalized Weyl's theorem} if \( \sigma_{BW}(T)=\sigma(T)\setminus E(T) \). An operator \(T\) induces the linear transformation \[ R(T^{n})/R(T^{n+1})\rightarrow R(T^{n+1})/R(T^{n+2}). \] Denote by \(k_{n}(T)\) the dimension of the null space of this transformation. It is said that \(T\) has \textit{topological uniform descent} if \(k_{n}(T)=0\) and \(R(T^{n})\) is closed in the operator range topology of \(R(T^{d})\) for \(n\geq d\). One says that \(T\) has \textit{the single-valued extension property} (SVEP) at the point \(\lambda_{0}\) if for every open disc \(D_{\lambda_{0}}\) centered at \(\lambda_{0}\), the only analytic function \( f:D_{\lambda_{0}}\rightarrow X \) which satisfies the equation \( (T-\lambda I)f(\lambda)=0 \) for all \( \lambda\in D_{\lambda_{0}} \) is the function \(f\equiv 0\). It is proved (Theorem 2.1) that \(T\) satisfies generalized Weyl's theorem if an only if \newline (a) \(T\) and \(T^{\ast}\) have the SVEP at all \( \lambda\in\sigma(T)\setminus\sigma_{W}(T) \); \newline (b) \(T-\lambda I\) has topological uniform descent at all \(\lambda\in E(T)\). The author obtains some other, similar results.
