The tent map is defined as \(\phi:[0,1]\to[0,1]\), where \(\phi(x)=2x\) if \(x\in[0,0.5]\) and \(\phi(x)=2-2x\) if \(x\in [0.5,1]\). Let \(\{\omega_i\}_{i=0}^\infty\) be a sequence such that each \(\omega_i\) is either \([0,0.5]\) or \([0.5,1]\). Then there exists an \(x_0\in\omega_0\) such that \(\phi(x_0)\in\omega_1\), \((\phi\circ\phi)(x_0)\in\omega_2\), \((\phi\circ\phi\circ\phi)(x_0)\in\omega_3\), and so on. The paper under review here generalizes this property of the tent map. Let \((X,\tau)\) be a compact \(T_2\)-space and let \({X_{\lambda} :\lambda\in\Lambda}\) be a closed cover of \(X\). The authors prove that if for each \(\lambda\in\Lambda\) there exists a continuous map \(g_{X_{\lambda}}\) from the subspace \((X_{\lambda},\tau_{X_{\lambda}})\) onto \((X,\tau)\), then for any sequence \(\{\omega_i\}_{i=0}^\infty\) with \(\omega_i\in{ X_{\lambda}: \lambda\in\Lambda}\) there is an \(x_0\in\omega_0\) such that \(g_{\omega_0}(x_0)\in\omega_1\), \((g_{\omega_1}\circ g_{\omega_0})(x_0)\in\omega_2\), \((g_{\omega_2}\circ g_{\omega_1}\circ g_{\omega_0})(x_0)\in\omega_3\), and so on. This result is applied to a closed cover of a weak self-similar set. (On the concept of weak self-similar set, see [\textit{A. Kitada, T. Konishi} and \textit{T. Watanabe}, Chaos Solitons Fractals 13, No. 2, 363--366 (2002; Zbl 0984.28004); \textit{A. Kitada}, Chaos Solitons Fractals 22, No. 1, 171--174 (2004; Zbl 1064.28009)].)
