This book is organized as follows: It consists of 12 chapters and is divided into three parts, in Part I, iterative solutions, in Part II, explicit solutions and in Part III, applications in systems and control are discussed. The book contents are given as follows: Chapter 1, Introduction, considers linear equations, univariate linear matrix equations, Lyapunov matrix equations, Kalman-Yakubovich, normal Sylvester matrix equations, other matrix equations, multivariate linear matrix equations, Roth matrix equations, first-order generalized Sylvester matrix equations, second-order generalized Sylvester matrix equations, higher-order generalized Sylvester matrix equations, linear matrix equations with more than two unknowns, coupled linear matrix equations, complex conjugate matrix equations and provides an overview of this monograph. Chapter 2, Mathematical preliminaries, consists of Kronecker products, Leverrier algorithms, generalized Leverrier algorithms, singular value decompositions, vector norms, operator norms, a real representation of a complex matrix, basic properties, consimilarity real linear spaces; real linear mappings, real inner product spaces, and optimization in complex domain. Part I, Iterative solutions: Chapter 3, Smith-type iterative approaches, deals with infinite series, the form of the unique solution, Smith iterations, Smith (l) iterations, Smith accelerative iterations. Chapter 4, Hierarchical-update-based iterative approaches, discusses extended con-Sylvester matrix equations, the matrix equation \(AXB +CXD = F\), numerical examples, coupled con-Sylvester matrix equations, iterative algorithms and complex conjugate matrix equations with transpose of unknowns. Chapter 5, Finite iterative approaches, considers generalized con-Sylvester matrix equations, extended con-Sylvester matrix equations, the matrix equation \(AXB + CXD = F\) and coupled con-Sylvester matrix equations. Part II, Explicit solutions: Chapter, 6 Real-representation-based approaches, deals with normal con-Sylvester matrix equations, solvability conditions, uniqueness conditions, colutions, con-Kalman-Yakubovich matrix equations, con-Sylvester matrix equations, con-Yakubovich matrix equations, extended con-Sylvester matrix equations and generalized con-Sylvester matrix equations. Chapter 7, Polynomial-matrix-based approaches, considers homogeneous con-Sylvester matrix equations, nonhomogeneous con-Sylvester matrix equations, con-Yakubovich matrix equations, extended con-Sylvester matrix equations and generalized con-Sylvester matrix equations. Chapter 8, Unilateral-equation-based approaches, deals with con-Sylvester matrix equations, con-Yakubovich matrix equations and nonhomogeneous con-Sylvester matrix equations. Chapter 9, Conjugate products, discusses the complex polynomial ring \((\mathbb{C}[s], +, )\), division with remainder in \((\mathbb{C}[s], +, )\), greatest common divisors in \((\mathbb{C}[s], +, )\), coprimeness in \((\mathbb{C}[s], +, )\), conjugate products of polynomial matrices, unimodular matrices, Smith normal form, conequivalence and consimilarity. Chapter 10, Con-Sylvester-sum-based approaches, deals with con-Sylvester sum on-Sylvester-polynomial matrix equations. Part III, Applications in systems and control: Chapter 11, Stability for antilinear systems, considers stability for discrete-time antilinear systems, stochastic stability for Markovian antilinear systems, solutions to coupled anti-Lyapunov equations, explicit iterative algorithms as well as implicit iterative algorithms. Chapter 12, Feedback design for antilinear systems, discusses the generalized eigenstructure assignment, model reference, tracking control, tracking conditions, solutions to the feedback stabilizing gain, solutions to the feed forward compensation gain, finite horizon quadratic regulation and infinite horizon quadratic regulation. In addition, references and an index are provided. The book is well organized and presents the most important notions of iterative solutions, explicit solutions and applications in systems and control. The book is suitable for senior undergraduate and graduate students as well as practical engineers, scientist and researchers interested in iterative, explicit solutions and of applications in systems and control.
