The behavior of Fourier coefficients of functions from the Lip \(\alpha\) class with respect to a general orthonormal system is investigated. The authors generalize some results due to {O. Szász} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 42, 366--395 (1937; Zbl 0017.30205)], \textit{B. I. Golubov} [Sov. Math., Dokl. 5, 620--623 (1964; Zbl 0134.28801); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 156, 247--250 (1964)] and \textit{S. V. Bockarev} [Sib. Math. J. 12, 869--873 (1972; Zbl 0243.42007)].
