The author proves that any complete regular local ring with a rank 1 valuation can be embedded in a ring of generalized Puiseux series and describes explicitly the embedding. This generalizes results by \textit{I. Kaplansky} [Duke Math. J. 9, 303--321 (1942; Zbl 0063.03135)] and \textit{B. Poonen} [Enseign. Math. (2) 39, No. 1--2, 87--106 (1993; Zbl 0807.12006)].
