The continuous centroid \(C^b(A)\) of a \(\text{JBW}^*\)-triple \(A\) is the set of bounded linear operators \(T\) on \(A\) such that, for all \(a\in A\), \(TD(a,a)= D(a,a)T\), where \(D(a,b)c= \{abc\}\). For each \(T\in C^b(A)\), there is a unique \(T'\in C^b(A)\) such that, for all \(a,b\in A\), \[ T\{abc\}= \{Tabc\}= \{a T' bc\}. \] It is known that, with the operator norm and the involution \(T\mapsto T'\), \(C^b(A)\) becomes a \(\text{W}^*\)-algebra. The paper under review is concerned with the continuous centroid of a weak\(^*\)-closed inner ideal \(J\) of \(A\). It is shown that the restriction \(T|_J\) of \(T\in C^b(A)\) to \(J\), is an element of \(C^b(J)\), and that the mapping \(T\mapsto T|_J\) is a *-homomorphism from the commutative \(\text{W}^*\)-algebra \(C^b(A)\) onto the commutative \(\text{W}^*\)-algebra \(C^b(J)\).
