This article is dedicated to Geoffrey J. Butler, a famous Canadian mathematician. There were three occasions on which he and Edward J. Barbeau collaborated as coaches of Canadian teams for the International Mathematical Olympiads. So the paper represents Geoff Butler not as a researcher, but as a problem solver and friend of students. The training sessions for IMO are described in detail. Two problems considered during these sessions are proposed. In 1981, 1982 und 1983 Olympiads were held in Washington, Budapest and Paris, and some travel impressions concerning these cities and organization of IMO may be also interesting for readers. The author emphasizes, that he attained a solid appreciation of the greatness of Geoff Butler during these summers on Olympus.
