Classically, a function \(f: R\to C\) is band-limited if its Fourier transform has compact support. Under certain conditions, a band-limited function can be reconstructed from its values on some discrete sets in \(R\). The goal of the present paper is to extend this idea to general Hilbert spaces. Given a self-adjoint, positive definite operator \(D\) on a Hilbert space \(E\), the space \(B_\omega(D)\) is defined as the set of vectors in \(E\), whose image in the spectral representation has support in \([0,\omega]\). \(B_\omega(D)\) can be characterized by some kind of Bernstein inequality, and the main result says that under certain conditions, every \(f\in B_\omega(D)\) is uniquely defined by some function values; a reconstruction formula and corresponding error estimates are given.
