The authors study the backward shift-invariant subspaces of the weighted Bergman spaces \(A_\alpha^p\) for \(\alpha>-1\) and \(1\leq p<+\infty\). Let \(\text{Lat} (L,A_\alpha^p)\) denote the subspaces \(M\subset A_\alpha^p\) for which \(LM\subset M\), where \(L\) be the backward shift operator on \(A_\alpha^p\). The main result (Theorem 1.3) gives a complete description of \(M\in \text{Lat} (L,A_\alpha^p)\), \(M\neq A_\alpha^p\) in the case where \(M^\perp\) is generated by slightly ``smoother'' functions. By the end the authors apply their results to examine the \(L\)-invariant subspaces of certain Bergman spaces, cyclic vectors, the adjoint of the weighted Dirichlet shift, weighted Bergman spaces on an annulus, and the backward shift on \(A^{-\infty}\). The paper is well written, includes a list of 27 references and gives a unified approach to these problems.
