Several stronger notions of monotonicity have been introduced during the last few decades as those of Gossez's maximal monotonicity, Fitzpatrick and Phelp's local maximal monotonicity, Simon's monotonicity. It is shown in this paper that for continuous linear monotone operators, these notions coincide and are equivalent to the monotonicity of the conjugate operator.
