The Abadie constraint qualification (ACQ) for a smooth convex inequality system is extended to the case of a closed convex multifunction between two Banach spaces in terms of the contingent cone and tangent derivative. Also, for multifunctions as well as inequality systems, the concept of a strong ACQ is introduced. By the new ACQ and the strong ACQ some well-known concepts in optimization can be unified, and it is proved in particular that the strong ACQ is closely related to the strong BCQ (basic constraint qualification). Moreover, the strong ACQ allows to provide several primal characterizations of calmness and strong calmness for a multifunction. The obtained results are used to derive primal characterizations of error bounds for differentiable convex inclusions and of linear regularity of finitely many closed convex sets in a Banach space. Some results from [\textit{A. Bakan} et al., Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 357, No. 10, 3831--3863 (2005; Zbl 1094.90030)] can be extended and improved by that.
