The authors employ the third-order shear deformation plate theory to solve the bending and buckling problems of functionally graded circular plates. The authors derive the relationships between the solutions of the axisymmetric bending and buckling of functionally graded circular plates based on the third-order shear deformation plate theory (TPT) and those of isotropic circular plates based on the classical plate theory (CPT). Moreover, effects of the gradient of material property and shear deformation on the axisymmetric bending and buckling of functionally graded plates are discussed. Comparisons of the TPT solutions to the CPT and the first-order plate theory solutions are presented.
