The authors give explicit integral representation for metaplectic operators in the general case. Let \(W[f](x,\omega)\) be the Wigner distribution of a function \(f\in L^2(\mathbb {R}^n)\). A unitary operator \(V\) defined on \(L^2(\mathbb {R}^n)\) is called a metaplectic operator, if there exists a linear transformation \(A\) on \(\mathbb {R}^n\times \mathbb {R}^n\) such that \[ W[v[f]]=W[f]\circ A . \] The matrix \(A\) corresponding to this transformation must be symplectic, which means that the \(2n\times 2n\)-matrix \(A\) has the \(n\times n\) blocks \(A_{jk}\) satisfying the relations \(A_{22}^TA_{11}-A_{12}^TA_{21}=I, \;A_{11}^TA_{21}-A_{21}^TA_{11}= A_{22}^TA_{12}-A_{12}^TA_{22}=0\). They construct the operator \[ \mathcal{F}_A=c(A)e^{-i\left(A_{11}^TA_{21 x, x}\right)/2} \int\limits_{R(A_{12}^T)}f(A_{12}t+A_{11}x)e^{-i\left(A_{12}^T+A_{22}t,t\right)/2-i\left(t,A_{12}^TA_{21}x\right)}dt \] in the case \(d:=\text{dim} R(A_{12})>0\), where \(c(A)\) is a normalizing constant, the case \(d=0\) being considered separately, and prove the following statement. Theorem. Let \(V\) be a metaplectic operator on \(L^2(\mathbb {R}^n)\) corresponding to a symplectic matrix \(A\). Then there exists a constant \(c\) with \(|c|=1\) such that \(V= c F_{\mathcal{A}}.\)
