This monograph is intended to serve as a textbook on iterative methods for operator equations in Hilbert spaces. Needed prerequisites from basic functional analysis and optimisation theory are included. A~substantial part of the text deals with the Gauss-Newton method and its practical application. The theory and practical realisation of the Tikhonov scheme is also discussed in detail. There are two separate chapters demonstrating the application of the regularised Gauss-Newton method for the ill-posed optical tomography inverse problem and the numerical investigation of the 2D inverse gravimetry problem in terms of a first kind 2D nonlinear integral equation and using the generalised discrepancy principle. Each chapter of this monograph contains problems for readers and the text can be used as introduction by postgraduate students specialised in ill-posed problems and engineers employing iterative methods for ill-posed problems in real world applications.
