The author considers meromorphic semi-complete vector fields. Under certain mild conditions, a classification is obtained through the resolution of the associated foliation. A complete polynomial vector field on the complex affine plane extends to the projective plane as a meromorphic vector field. The author applies his classification result to these vector fields. This leads to the combinatorial analysis of a certain reduction process, interesting in its own right. As a result a theorem of Brunella is recovered: if the typical leaf of the complete polynomial vector field on the plane is \(C\), then the associated flow preserves a rational pencil. The author uses techniques of Differential Equations, while the parallel study of Brunella (building on works of McQuillan) uses the language and tools of Algebraic Geometry.
