Let \(a>1\) and \(b>0\) be two parameters and \(\Omega\) be a subset of \(\mathbb{Z}\). In the paper under review, the author discusses the problem of characterizing the functions \(g \in L^2(\mathbb{R})\) such that the system \(\{ a^{n/2} g(a^n \cdot - mb) ~;~ n \in \Omega, m \in \mathbb{Z} \}\) is a frame for \(L^2(\mathbb{R})\). The conditions are given on \(\widehat{g}\), the Fourier transform of \(g\). When \(\Omega = \mathbb{Z}\), it is proved that if \(\{ a^{n/2} g(a^n \cdot - mb) ~;~ n, m \in \mathbb{Z} \}\) is a frame for \(L^2(\mathbb{R})\) then \(\sum_{n \geq 0} |\widehat{g}(a^n \xi)|^2 \leq B < \infty\) a.e. In addition, assuming certain conditions on the support of \(\widehat{g}\) several necessary and sufficient conditions on \(\widehat{g}\) are established. In the case when \(\Omega =\{0,1, \dots \}\), it is proved that if \(\{ a^{n/2} g(a^n \cdot - mb) ~;~ n \geq 0 , m \in \mathbb{Z} \}\) is a frame for \(L^2(\mathbb{R})\) then \(0 < A \leq \sum_{n \geq 0} |\widehat{g}(a^n \xi)|^2 \leq B < \infty\) a.e. Finally, a sufficient condition on \(g\) is shown, this last condition involves a similitude to Wiener-type functions.
