    Let \((G,\circ)\) be a power associative and square-symmetric groupoid (i.e., \(x^{k+m}=x^k\circ x^m\) and \((x\circ y)^2=x^2\circ y^2\) for \(x,y\in G\), \(k,m\in\mathbb N\)). A subset \(V\) of \(G\) is called weakly bounded iff for each \(x\in G\setminus\{0\}\) there exists \(n\in\mathbb N\) such that \(x^k\not\in V\) for \(k\geq n\). Let \(Y\) be a Banach space. For a mapping \(f\colon G\to Y\), \(x,y\in G\) and \(m\in\mathbb N\) we define \(\Delta^1_yf(x)=\Delta_y f(x)=f(x\circ y)-f(x)\) and \(\Delta_y^{m+1}f(x)=\Delta_y(\Delta_y^m f)(x)\). A function \(f\colon G\to Y\) is called a monomial of degree \(m\in\mathbb N\) if it satisfies \[ \Delta^m_y f(x)=m! f(y),\qquad x,y\in G. \] The paper deals with the stability of the above monomial functional equation on some restricted domain. Namely, it is proved that if \(f\colon G\to Y\) satisfies, with some \(\delta\geq 0\) and some weakly bounded \(V\subset G\), the inequality \[ \| \Delta^m_y f(x)-m! f(y)\| \leq\delta ,\qquad (x,y)\in G^2\setminus V\times V, \] then there exists a unique monomial function \(g\colon G\to Y\) of degree \(m\) such that \[ \| f(x)-g(x)\| \leq K\delta,\qquad x\in G \] with some constant \(K\). Some consequences and applications are also given.
