Plane potential flows of the ideal gas described by a first order system and a second order partial differential equations of Chaplygin are considered . It is known that such equations have an infinite number of exact solutions. In the present article it is shown that with each of the above mentioned exact solutions a proper system of gas dynamics equations is connected and one of the equations is a divergent equation. A detailed analysis of the first order system of Chaplygin partial differential equations by separation of variables leads to another algorithm of construction of an unlimited number of conservation laws. The conservation laws found include as special cases some results obtained earlier by other authors.
