    Let \(\varphi\) be a Young function on \([0, \infty)\), \((T, \Omega, m)\) be a measure space, and \(L^ \varphi = L^ \varphi (T, \Omega, m)\) be an Orlicz space equipped with the Luxemburg norm \(\rho_ \varphi\) (so that \(L^ \infty \equiv L^ \varphi\) for \(\varphi (s) = \{{0, \atop \infty,} {s \in [0,1]; \atop s > 1.})\). Put \(m_{\inf} = \inf \{m(A) > 0\): \(A \in \Omega\}\), \(x_ \infty (\varphi) = \sup \{x > 0 : \varphi (x) < \infty\}\). A constant \(\mu>0\) is called an \(M\)-factor on \(L^ \varphi\) if \[ \rho_ \varphi (fg) \leq \mu \rho_ \varphi (f) \rho_ \varphi (g),\;f,g \in L^ \varphi. \] The following two theorems are the main results of the present paper (which may be considered as being an immediate application of the preceding article of the same authors collective in the same issue of this J.) Here we formulate them with some abbreviations. First Main Theorem. The following assertions are equivalent: (b) \(L^ \varphi\) is closed under multiplication, hence an algebra. (c) \(L^ \varphi \subseteq L^ \infty\). (d) \(m_{\inf} > 0\) or \(x_ \infty (\varphi) < \infty\). (Naturally, these two assertions are mutually independent). Second Main Theorem. Let \((T,\Omega, m)\) be free of infinite atoms. If \(L^ \varphi\) satisfies any of the equivalent assertions (b)--(d), then (i) \(L^ \varphi\neq\{0\}\). (ii) \(L^ \varphi\) is a subalgebra of \(L^ \infty\). (iii) \(\rho_ \varphi\) has \(M\)-factors on \(L^ \varphi\). (v) If \(m_{\inf} > 0\), then the best (least) \(M\)-factor is given by \(\varphi^{-1} (1/m_{\inf})\). (vi) If \(m_{\inf} = 0\), then the best \(M\)-factor is given by \(x_ \infty (\varphi)\).
