The \(Q\)-operator was introduced by \textit{R. J. Baxter} [Ann. Phys. 70, 193--228 (1972; Zbl 0236.60070)] as an auxiliary tool to find eigenvalues of the transfer matrix at the eight-vertex model. The goal of the paper is to generalize Baxter's construction of the \(Q\)-operator in [\textit{R. Baxter}, Ann. Phys. 76, 1--24 (1973; Zbl 1092.82511)] to the higher spin representations of the Sklyanin algebra. As an application, the author proves the sum rule for the Bethe roots.
