The density property for a complex manifold states in a mathematically precise way that it has a large group of holomorphic automorphisms. It originates in the Andersen-Lempert theory [\textit{E. Andersén,} et al., Invent. Math. 110, No. 2, 371--388 (1992; Zbl 0770.32015)], see also [\textit{D. Varolin}, J. Geom. Anal. 11, No. 1, 135--160 (2001; Zbl 0994.32019)]. A brief survey of the geometric consecuences and the known classes of manifolds with the density property is given. Mainly, the author focuses on affine algebraic surfaces with the density property, in particular on so-called Gizatullin surfaces. Four open problems on the density porperty for algebraic surfaces are presented. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1402.30001].
