Given a smooth stable map \((f,g,h):\mathbb R^n\to \mathbb R^3\) with \(n\geq 3\), this paper characterizes the stable singularities of the maps \(f\) and \((f,g)\) in terms of the singularities of the restrictions to the discriminant set of \((f,g,h)\) of the projections \(\pi:\mathbb R^3\to \mathbb R\) and \(\Pi:\mathbb R^3\to \mathbb R^2\), respectively. For the case of stable maps \((f,g):\mathbb R^n\to \mathbb R^2\) with \(n\geq 2\) the author has obtained similar results in previous papers, and in [Commun. Anal. Geom. 24, No. 3, 645--671 (2016; Zbl 1375.58027)] he uses these results in order to obtain upper bounds for the minimal number of birth-death singularities over all generic homotopies connecting two Morse functions \(f\) and \(g\). In this sense the results in this paper may also have interesting applications.
