The authors study the interplay between the geometry of orbit spaces for a class of infinite dimensional group actions, the projections of a class of semi-martingales from the total space to the orbit space for such group actions and the Faddeev-Popov procedure in gauge theory. These links are obtained by using the heat-kernel operators, which arise in the regularization procedure to define minimality of orbits, projected processes and the Faddeev-Popov determinant in gauge theory. In the case of group actions with finite dimensional orbit space, there are introduced the notions of strongly harmonic functions and regularized Brownian motions, which project onto harmonic functions, respectively onto Brownian motions, whenever the orbits are minimal.
