The first author gives the so-called UP-iteration, which is a method for constructing new rational minimal surfaces of genus zero from a given rational minimal surface. In this paper, the authors give an analogue of the UP-iteration for constant mean curvature 1 surfaces in the hyperbolic space. This yields infinitely, but countably, many nontrivial 1-parameter families of new complete such surfaces. These new surfaces have a finite total curvature, and each of them admits a 1-parameter family of deformations preserving its principal curvatures.
