Let \(X\) be a compact complex manifold that is almost homogeneous, i.e. its complex automorphism group has an open orbit. We say that \(X\) is of cohomogeneity one if the maximal compact subgroup has a (real) hypersurface orbit. This paper is part of a series that generalises earlier work relating the existence of Calabi extremal metrics to the geodesic stability for any type I compact complex almost homogeneous manifold of cohomogeneity one (cf. [Int. J. Math. 14, No. 3, 259--287 (2003; Zbl 1048.32014)] for more information on the three types defined by the author). This research program is organised according to certain geodesic stability principles which the author presents in an updated version in the introduction. After some introductory statements on type I almost homogeneous complex manifolds, the author shows that for type I Kähler compact almost homogeneous manifolds of cohomogeneity one, there is a unique extremal metric in a Kähler class (up to automorphism) if and only if the Kähler class is geodesically stable. He then relates his results to the slope stability in the sense of \textit{J. Ross} and \textit{R. Thomas} [J. Differ. Geom. 72, No. 3, 429--466 (2006; Zbl 1125.53057)]. As an application one obtains several statements of geometric nature: \newline 1) Let \(M\) be a Fano manifold and \(N \subset M\) a submanifold that destabilises the Ricci class. Then \(N\), the blow-up of M along \(N\) and the exceptional divisor \(E\) are Fano manifolds. \newline 2) Let \(M\) be a compact Kähler manifold with negative first Chern class. Then the negative Ricci class is strictly slope stable. \newline 3) Let \(M\) be a compact Kähler manifold with zero first Chern class. Then any Kähler class is strictly slope stable. For Parts I and II by the author see [Pac. J. Appl. Math. 3, No. 1--2, 43--71 (2011; Zbl 1293.53054); ibid. 3, No. 3, 179--201 (2011; Zbl 1293.53080)].
