In complex analysis, Hayman's conjecture states that if \(f\) is a transcendental meromorphic function and if \(a\) is a nonzero complex number, then, for each integer \(m \geq 3\), the function \(f^{\prime}+af^m\) has infinitely many zeros that are not zeros of \(f\). This conjecture has been proved by W. K. Hayman (for \(m\geq 5\)), E. Mues (for \(m=4\)), and W. Bergweiler and A. Eremenko (for \(m=3\) -- also independently by H. H. Chen and M. L. Fang). In this paper, the author proves Hayman's conjecture in a non-Archimedean setting: Let \(\mathbb{K}\) be a complete, algebraically closed, ultrametric field of any characteristic (greater than or equal to zero), and let \(f\) be a transcendental meromorphic function, and \(T\) a rational function over \(\mathbb{K}\). Then, for each integer \(m\geq 5\) or \(m=1\), the function \(f^{\prime}+Tf^m\) has infinitely many zeros that are not zeros of \(f\). Furthermore, the author shows that if the residue characteristic of \(\mathbb{K}\) is zero, then the result holds for any positive integer \(m\neq 2\). The paper is well-written; and the list of references is comprehensive. Readers with interest in non-Archimedean analysis in general and in meromorphic functions over complete ultrametric fields will find this paper interesting and enjoyable to read.
