The paper explores new ways to define computable knot (and virtual knot) invariants, by considering certain quotients of the fundamental quandle with respect to properties such as being involutive, abelian or latin. The fundamental latin abelian quandle is studied in greater detail, and Gröbner basis invariants (called FLAG invariants) are suggested as analogies to Alexander polynomials derived from the fundamental abelian quandle.
