The notion of upper (respectively, lower) semisolvability of a semisimple Hopf algebra was introduced by \textit{S. Montgomery} and \textit{S. Witherspoon} [in J. Pure Appl. Algebra 129, No. 3, 315-326 (1998; Zbl 0932.16039)]. Let \(k\) be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. Let also \(p,q\) be prime numbers and let \(a,b\) be natural numbers. It was shown by \textit{C. Galindo} and the reviewer [in Math. Res. Lett. 14, No. 5-6, 943-954 (2007; Zbl 1160.16020)] that examples of semisimple Hopf algebras of dimension \(p^aq^b\) over \(k\) which are not semisolvable exist. On the other hand, \textit{P. Etingof, D. Nikshych} and \textit{V. Ostrik} have shown [in Adv. Math. 226, No. 1, 176-205 (2011; Zbl 1210.18009)] that every fusion category of (Frobenius-Perron) dimension \(p^aq^b\) is solvable in an appropriate sense. This applies in particular to the category of finite-dimensional representations of a semisimple Hopf algebra. In the paper under review the authors show that every semisimple Hopf algebra of dimension \(2q^3\) over \(k\) is semisolvable, in the sense that it is upper or lower semisolvable. Thus these Hopf algebras can be obtained from group algebras and their duals as successive extensions.
