The authors study an abstraction of a quantitative stratification principle introduced in a series of papers by Cheeger, Naber, Halshofer, and Valtorta. This principle can be stated as follows: the set of points where a solution to a geometric problem is faraway at every scale from being homogeneous with \(k+1\) independent invariant directions has Minkowski dimension less than or equal to \(k\). This principle can be used in the regularity theory for higher codimension minimal surfaces, where a fundamental role is played by the multiple valued function introduced by Almgren, which turns out to be a correct blowup limit for the analysis of singularities. In the present paper, the authors improve Almgren's result by showing an estimate of the Minkowski dimension of \(\Delta_Q\) (the set of multiplicity \(Q\) points of Dirichlet minimizing \(Q\)-valued functions). They obtain a stratification result for the whole set of singular points of multiple valued functions. This result is a consequence of the abstract stratification principle introduced by the authors. They apply the abstract stratification principle to varifolds with bounded mean curvature and also almost minimizers for the perimeter. In these cases, the authors derive some improvements of well-known estimates for the singular sets.
