The authors prove the following generalization of a theorem of \textit{Y. Shi} and \textit{L.-F. Tam}, c.f. [J. Differ. Geom. 62, No. 1, 79--125 (2002; Zbl 1071.53018)]. Let \((\Omega, g)\) be an \(n\)-dimensional (\(n\geq 3\)) compact Riemannian manifold, spin when \(n>7\), with non-negative scalar curvature and mean convex boundary. If every boundary component \(\Sigma_j\) has positive scalar curvature and embeds isometrically as a mean convex star-shaped hypersurface \(\hat \Sigma_J\subset \mathbb{R}^n\), then \[ \int_{\Sigma_J}H d\sigma \leq \int_{\hat \Sigma_J}\hat H d\hat \sigma, \] where \(H\) is the mean curvature of \(\Sigma_j\) in \((\Omega, g)\), \(\hat H\) is the mean curvature of \(\hat \Sigma_j\) in \(\mathbb{R}^n\), and where \(d\sigma\) and \(d\hat\sigma\) denote the respective volume forms. Moreover, equality holds for some boundary component \(\Sigma_j\) if, and only if, \((\Omega, g)\) is isometric to a domain in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). In the proof, the authors make use of a foliation of the exterior of the \(\hat\Sigma_j\)'s in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) by the \(H/R\)-flow studied by \textit{C. Gerhardt} [J. Differ. Geom. 32, No. 1, 299--314 (1990; Zbl 0708.53045)] and \textit{J. I. E. Urbas} [Math. Z. 205, No. 3, 355--372 (1990; Zbl 0691.35048)]. Besides, the authors establish the rigidity statement in low dimensions without the spin assumption that was used by Shi and Tam.
