Let \(m\) be a bounded function on \(\mathbb{R}\), and let \(T_m\) be the associated multiplier \((T^(\widehat{\;}_m f)(\xi) = m(\xi) \widehat{f}(\xi)\). For an even bump function \(\eta\) adapted to \(\mp[1/2, 4]\) which equals to 1 on \(\mp [3/4, 3]\), one defines the \(j\)th frequency component \(m_j\) of \(m\) to be the function \(m_j(\xi) =\eta(\xi)m(2^j\xi)\). In this paper, the authors study Marcinkiewicz multipliers \(T_m\), which means that the frequency components \(m_j\) of \(T_m\) have bounded variation uniformly on \(j\). They establish sharp \((H^1, L^{1,q})\) and local \((L \text{ Log}^rL,L^{1,q})\) mapping properties for the Marcinkiewicz multipliers. In particular, they show that the multipliers in the Marcinkiewicz theorem map \(H^1\) to \(L^{1,\infty}\) and \(L\text{ Log}^{1/2} L\) to \(L^{1,\infty}\), and that these estimates are sharp.
