Let \(X\) be a smooth \(n\)-dimensional complex projective variety with canonical line bundle \(\omega _X=\bigwedge^nT_X^\vee\). The \(m\)-th pluricanonical map \(\phi _{m}:X \to \mathbb P H^0(\omega _X^{\otimes m})\) is an important tool in the study of the birational geometry of \(X\). The Kodaira dimension of \(X\) denoted by \(\kappa (X)\) is the maximum of \(\{ \dim \phi _m(X)\}\) the dimensions of the images of the \(m\)-th pluricanonical maps for all \(m>0\). It is known that for all sufficiently big and divisible integers \(m>0\), the maps \(\phi _m\) are birational to the Iitaka fibration of \(X\) and it is an important question to determine effective conditions on \(m\) that guarantee that \(\phi _m\) is birational to the Iitaka fibration. In recent years there has been substantial interest in this problem. When \(\kappa (X)\) is maximal (i.e., \(\kappa (X)=n\)), by work of Tsuji, Hacon-McKernan and Takayama [cf. \textit{H. Tsuji}, Osaka J. Math. 44, No. 3, 723--764 (2007; Zbl 1186.14043); \textit{C. D. Hacon} and \textit{J. McKernan}, Invent. Math. 166, No. 1, 1--25 (2006; Zbl 1121.14011); \textit{S. Takayama}, Invent. Math. 165, No. 3, 551--587 (2006; Zbl 1108.14031)], it is known that there exists a constant \(r_n\) (depending only on the dimension of \(X\)) such that for all \(r\geq r_n\), the map \(\phi _r\) is birational. When \(\kappa (X)=1\), a related result is proven by \textit{O. Fujino} and \textit{S. Mori} [J. Differ. Geom. 56, No. 1, 167--188 (2000; Zbl 1032.14014)] (their answer however depends on the invariants of a general fiber of the Iitaka fibration). In the article under review, the author shows that if \(n,b,k\) are fixed positive integers, then there exists a positive integer \(m(n,b,k)\) (depending only on \(n,b,k\)) such that for any algebraic fiber space \(f:X\to Y\) of smooth projective varieties with general fiber \(F\), \(\dim X=n\), \(\dim Y=\kappa (X)\), \(\kappa (F)=0\), such that \(Y\) is not uniruled, \(f\) has maximal variation, \(F\) has a good minimal model, \(b\) is the smallest integer such that \(h^0(bK_F)\neq 0\) and \(B_{\dim E'}(E')\leq k\) where \(E\to F\) is the cyclic cover corresponding to the unique element in \(|bK_F|\) and \(E'\) is a desingularization of \(E\), then \(\phi _m\) is birational to the Iitaka fibration for all \(m\geq m(n,b,k)\) such that \(h^0(mK_X)\neq 0\).
