The authors consider the following Dirichlet problem for the nonlinear singular elliptic equation involving the 1-Laplacian and a total variation term \[ \begin{cases} -\operatorname{div}\Big(\frac{Du}{|Du|}\Big) +g(u)|Du|=f(x) & \text{in}\,\, \Omega\\ u=0 & \text{on}\,\, \partial \Omega\,, \end{cases} \] where \(\Omega\) is a bounded open set with Lipschitz boundary \(\partial \Omega\), \(g\) is a continuous nonnegative function and \(f\) is a nonnegative function belonging to the Marcinkiewicz space \(L^{N,\,\infty}(\Omega)\). In the first part of the paper the authors prove an existence and uniqueness result for the problem and give an explicit solution in the radial case. Since the existence and the uniqueness of the solutions for the problem depend on the properties of the function \(g\), in the last part of the paper the authors consider different conditions on \(g\), so that they are able to handle a more general gradient term. It is known that the total variation term \(f\) induces a regularizing effect. The authors analyze whether such features remain true when more general gradient terms are taken into account. Roughly speaking, what happens is that the bigger \(g\), the better the properties of the solution.
