The main result of the paper under consideration says that there exists a $6$-dimensional, simply connected, compact, symplectic and complex manifold which carries no Kähler metric. Observe that the first examples of simply connected compact symplectic non-Kählerian manifolds were given in dimension $6$ by Gompf and in dimension at least $10$ by McDuff. The examples of Gompf and McDuff are not known to admit complex structures. In addition, Fine and Panov have constructed simply connected symplectic $6$-manifolds with vanishing $c_1$ which do not have a compatible complex structure (but it is not known whether they admit Kähler structures). Furthermore, Guan constructed the first family of simply connected, compact and holomorphic symplectic non-Kählerian manifolds of (real) dimension $4n$ with $n$ at least $2$. In order to construct the example described in the main result, the authors start with a $6$-dimensional nilmanifold admitting both a complex structure and a symplectic structure. Then they take a quotient by a finite group preserving both complex and symplectic structure to obtain a simply connected, $6$-dimensional orbifold with an orbifold complex structure and an orbifold symplectic form. By Hironaka's theorem there is a complex resolution of the obtained orbifold. In addition, the singularities of the mentioned orbifold may be resolved symplectically. The given complex and symplectic resolutions have been proven to be diffeomorphic and lead to the needed example.
