The paper is devoted to the presentation and discussion of Adam Adamandy Kochański's work published in \textit{Acta Eruditorum} in 1685 in which he considered approximations of \(\pi\). In the paper Kochański's algorithm for the construction of rationals approximating \(\pi\) is reconstructed and it is shown that it can be generalized to produce approximations of arbitrary irrational number \(\alpha\).
