Generalized resolvents of symmetric and isometric operators: the Shtraus approach (Q1947153)

This is a survey of research started in [\textit{A. V. Shtraus}, Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Ser. Mat. 18, 51--86 (1954; Zbl 0055.10903)]. The main objects of this research are the generalized resolvents of symmetric operators and isometric operators in a Hilbert space. The paper includes complete proofs of the presented results and is a good source for studying the Shtraus theory. The results are divided into three Sections: 2. Generalized resolvents of isometric and densely defined symmetric operators, 3. Generalized resolvents of non-densely defined symmetric operators, 4. Generalized resolvents of isometric and symmetric operators with gaps in their spectrum.
