Let \(G\) be the affine group of the real line represented as a semidirect product \(\mathbb R \rtimes \mathbb R^{\times} \) where \(\mathbb R \) and \(\mathbb R^{\times}\) are respectively the additive and the multiplicative groups of real numbers. If \(\mathcal H : = L^2(\mathbb R^{\times}, dt/|t|)\), there is a unitary representation \(\pi : G \to \mathcal U (\mathcal H)\) such that the corresponding coefficient space \(A_{\pi}(G)\) coincides with the Fourier algebra \(A(G)\). Now, there is a natural isometry between the space of trace-class operators on \(\mathcal H\) and the coefficient space of \(\pi\), say \(\phi: \mathcal S_1(\mathcal H) \to A_\pi(G)\), and through \(\phi\), \(\mathcal S_1(\mathcal H)\) can be endowed with a commutative Banach algebra structure. The main contribution of the authors consists in giving an explicit formula for this new multiplication in \(\mathcal S_1(\mathcal H)\) which they have called ``dual convolution''.
