This paper is devoted to the analysis of sharp bilinear estimates of Ozawa-Tsutsumi type for solutions of the Schrödinger equation \[ i\partial_{t}u+\Delta u=0,\text{ \;}u\left( 0\right) =u_{0}, \] on \(\mathbb{R}^{1+d},\) \(d\geq2,\) with initial data \(u_{0}\in\mathbb{R}^{d}.\) The authors unify the estimates of Ozawa-Tsutsumi with the estimates obtained by Carneiro and Planchon-Vega and give a complete characterization of extremising initial data. The extremal functions are Gaussians. The classical Ozawa-Tsutsumi estimates are valid for both \(\left| u\right| ^{2}\) and \(u^{2}\) in the classical Sobolev spaces. However, the authors prove that the Gaussians are not extremisers in the case of \(u^{2}\) for space dimensions greater or equal than \(3\). By introducing certain dispersive Sobolev norms, the authors obtain analogous sharp estimates for \(u^{2}.\)
